Parents who have
a child with a learning disability often face challenges as they strive to support
their child's educational needs.
KinderMinds provides
the following support services:
Educational
Planning
When a child has
already received extensive testing, Dr. Smith can review the previous records and provide recommendations for educational planning which may include school placement,
further assessment, and intervention options. Written recommendations are
sent to the parent within two weeks of receiving the documents, and a
phone conference will be scheduled to discuss the recommendations. Parents are welcome to schedule
an additional meeting with Dr. Smith at the KinderMinds office.
Office
Consultation
Dr. Smith is available
to schedule hourly meetings with parents to discuss their child’s academic development
and related questions or concerns they may have.
School Conference
When it is advantageous
to have Dr. Smith meet with your child's teachers and administrators, Dr. Smith
is available to come to your child's school. The purpose of the meeting may
vary depending on your child's needs within the school setting. Generally,
the conference takes place with one of the following individuals or groups:
Your child's
classroom teacher (s):
to discuss appropriate instructional methods given your child's learning strengths/weaknesses
and accommodations to offer within the classroom setting. Accommodations are
adaptations to the classroom environment, the nature of instruction, or the means
of assessing progress that allow your child to learn in a way that is most appropriate
and to demonstrate his/her knowledge and skills most readily.
The Student Intervention
Team (SIT) or Multidisciplinary Team (MDT): to discuss your child's eligibility to receive
special education services or 504 accommodations.
Your child's
IEP team
(if your child is currently receiving special education services): to discuss ways
in which the special education staff can further assist your child in attaining
needed skills.
