As part of the admissions process, some private schools require an assessment of a child's academic potential and/or academic achievement. This assessment must be performed by a professional
recognized as qualified by the school.
The Admissions Assessment
is comprised of two phases. The sections below provide detailed information
about each phase.
1. Diagnostic Testing
An Admissions Assessment
requires that your child attend a two-hour testing session with Dr. Smith at the
KinderMinds office in
Bellevue
. Depending on the nature of the testing required, your child will complete
one of two types of tests:
Intelligence: An intelligence
test (typically the Wechsler Intelligence Test for Children-Fourth Edition, WISC-IV)
is used to estimate your child's academic potential. In other words, this
type of test provides some indication of how well one might expect your child to
achieve in school.
Achievement: Achievement
testing provides a measure of your child's current levels of academic accomplishment
in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics (tests may include: Woodcock-Johnson
Tests of Achievement-Third Edition; Wechsler Individual Achievement Test-Second
Edition; Test of Written Language-Third Edition; Gray Oral Reading Tests-Fourth
Edition, etc.)
The testing session
will take place at the KinderMinds office in
Bellevue
. Your child will be given breaks, as needed. Healthy snacks will be
provided.
2. Diagnostic Report
The results of the
Admissions Assessment are generally available within one week after the testing
session. The results can be delivered to the child's parents or directly to
the school, depending on the preference of the child's parents.
The Admissions Assessment
does not typically include a parent conference; however, it is possible to schedule
a meeting with Dr. Smith to discuss the test results.
